A Trip to Guadeloupe Part 2

The second in our series about distilleries we visited in Guadeloupe.

This is the second in our series on Guadeloupe (see Part 1) In 2017, Martin and Rebecca had the great fortune to be invited on the first of its kind tour of rum distilleries of Guadeloupe in collaboration with the tourism board.
It was a kind of test-bed trip – what would be the feasibility of having tourists make these visits in the future. This week, we add a few more distillery deep dives.

Bellevue Marie Galante

On the island of Marie-Galante, is the second largest Agricole producer in Guadeloupe, producing half of the output of Damoiseau (800,000 liters of alcohol) a year.
In 2017 when we were there, Bellevue was owned by Hubert Damoiseau - distant cousin of the owner of the Damoiseau distillery on Guadeloupe, but distilleries are not connected.
In 2001 88% was purchased by Bardinet, so Hubert Damoiseau now serves as manager of Bellevue. They still have a historic windmill, seen here:

The garnish is the last thing you do and the first thing the guest experiences. That’s a good reason not to treat it as an afterthought.
